The Shoals Area is more than just an affordable place to live. It was the birth of Helen Keller and WC Handy, just to name a few local celebrities. Crime here is relatively low and there are an abundance of excellent elementary schools. The University of North Alabama is also located in The Shoals. For the active types, there are plenty of golf courses to enjoy. We even have a 36-hole Robert Trent Jones golf course now on the Tennessee River! Speaking of the river, there are plenty of swimming holes that are accessible with or without a boat. For business travel and the “big city,” Huntsville, AL is only about an hour drive by car. Nashvhille, TN and Birmingham, AL are about a two-hour drive by car. The white sand beaches on the Gulf Coast are only about a seven-hour drive. Atlanta is only about a four-hour drive.
